Vertical platform lifts

Vertical platform lifts

Vertical platform lifts for home and commercial

A vertical platform lift, also known as a vertical wheelchair platform lift, is a great mobility product for transporting wheelchairs and their users from one level to another. Unlike inclined platform lifts that travel in an inclined motion along a staircase, vertical platform lifts transport passengers between floors in a vertical motion. This type of elevators uses an open platform, or a basket-like vessel for passenger transportation and that is why they are called vertical platform lifts.

We make vertical lifts that are designed to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and come in a variety of configurations to accommodate the needs of almost any location.

We offer 2 main types of vertical platform lifts:

  • Unenclosed platform lifts – platform lifts without shaft, ideal for configurations with a limited travel and maximum 2 stops.
  • Platform lifts with a shaft enclosure – platform lifts with a shaft enclosure, perfect for lifts with configurations of 2-6 stops.

The difference is that our current offer includes wheelchair lifts that are elegant enough to become beautiful architectural features in public buildings, commercial spaces, and private homes.

Platform lifts for public & commercial buildings

If your public or commercial building requires an ADA-compliant elevating solution, a vertical platform lift is often a great alternative to a passenger lift. Vertical platform lifts cannot travel as fast or be used as frequently as passenger lifts but are much more compact and cost a lot less to buy and to install. Unless your building requires an elevator that can travel hundreds of times a day, a vertical platform lift is a cost-efficient and space-saving alternative.

Porch wheelchair platform lift

Porch lifts

Vertical platform lifts designed to give wheelchair users access to a porch or a deck are often called porch lifts. Although porch lifts are often installed outdoors, they are also a space-efficient and cost-saving alternative for split-levels and mezzanine floors inside your home or building.

We offer you several models of porch lifts, such as the Symmetry Wheelchair Home Lift, Symmetry Unenclosed and Symmetry Enclosure.

Outdoor vertical platform lifts

While the Symmetry Unenclosed and the Symmetry Wheelchair Home lift are ideal for 2-stop configurations to outdoor porches, other outdoor lifts, such as the Symmetry Enclosure or the Cibes Outdoor Lift are better options for serving multiple floors.

In addition, the Cibes outdoor vertical platform lift offers you a wide range of weather resistant options and accessories for temperature control.

  • Can I use a vertical platform lift like an elevator in my home?

Yes, but vertical platform lifts do operate very differently. A vertical platform lift uses a constant pressure system, which means you will need to press and hold the control button in order for the lift to operate. There are applications that may make sense for the vertical platform lift over an elevator, but it is advised to have an authorized Cibes Symmetry dealer evaluate your specific uses and needs to determine the best lift type and product for you.

  • What is the difference between a wheelchair lift and a vertical platform lift?

A vertical platform lift is a specific type of wheelchair lift. Vertical platform lifts have a platform which travels straight up and down, as opposed to an incline such as a staircase. The vertical platform lifts from Cibes Symmetry are available for residential or commercial use. Commercial vertical platform lifts are approved in the ADA Accessibility Guidelines as a means to provide unassisted entry and exit from buildings, service or recreational facilities.

  • Do vertical platform lifts need a lift pit?

Vertical platform lifts can be installed on grade or within a pit. If installed in a pit, there will be a smooth transition from the finished floor to the lift platform, otherwise a ramp will need to be provided to overcome the transition. A pit will need to be provided with proper drainage to prevent the collection of water.

  • How fast can a vertical platform lift travel?

The speed of a vertical platform lift is dependent on the drive type used. Symmetry Vertical Platform Lifts have drives available with speeds from ten (10) feet per minute to twenty (20) feet per minute.
